About
Thomas Alexander Biggs is a graduating senior trumpet player at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) with a Bachelors in Music Performance with a minor in Commercial Music Business. In addition to being a full time student, he is an active working musician performing in classical, orchestral, jazz, pop and pit orchestra ensembles throughout South and Central Florida.
Having served as principal trumpet in FAU’s Wind Ensemble since sophomore year, soloist in the FAU Jazz Orchestra, and first trumpet in the University Pit Orchestra, Thomas’s time at FAU has not only shaped him into a passionate and versatile performer, but also a confident leader. Outside of fulfilling his academic duties, Thomas is a freelance musician who has performed in numerous orchestras, bands and pit orchestras throughout South Florida such as Symphony of the Americas, Making Faces, and lead trumpet in numerous professional theater productions. As a soloist, Thomas has received recognition as winner of the FAU Concerto & Aria Competition and semi-finalist at the 2024 and 2025 National Trumpet Competition.
In addition to performing, Thomas has gained extensive teaching experience with all ages. He currently serves as the Assistant Instructor with Boca Raton High School’s Jazz Band where he provides instruction to the school’s big band jazz ensemble. He also serves as the Assistant Brass Instructor at Highland Elementary, a Title I Elementary School in Lake Worth, FL where he provides accessible and healthy musical development for over 30 students of brass. Additionally, he has served as the Staff Trumpet Instructor at FAU’s summer elementary, middle and high school camps.
As both a student and active freelance performance musician, he has developed a versatile skill set that his students, peers and mentors have come to rely upon. Thomas’s leadership roles in various ensembles and teaching experience have fostered strong skills in responsibility, communication, and collaboration. His plans post-graduation are to pursue a 1-year Masters in Nonprofit Management at FAU where he aims to strengthen his career as a future collegiate-level Professor of Trumpet by developing skills in financial management and community engagement.
